A word of wisdom

A schoolboy reporter named Charles Schnee once saw the great stage producer, Max Reinhardt, conduct a rehearsal. Instructing an actor, Reinhardt said: "Always act the part—and you can become whatever you wish to become!"

Later in his life, Schnee said: "I thought he was speaking only in terms of professional acting. But now I know that his words apply to any individual in any walk of life."

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Charles Schnee learned from personal practice that while our thoughts influence our actions—our actions also influence our thoughts. And that is wonderful news. If I start today to act the part of the person I want to become—my heart and mind can soon match my habits . . . in the high calling of our daily work.

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

Healthcare Bill Passes

Whether you like it or not, or even if you care anymore for the rancor that has been the healthcare debate, it is now history.  the historic healthcare bill passed and we are now left with trying to decifer where we fit in.  Wealthy taxpayers will almost certainly see a tax increase.  Others may be required to buy insurance and you may not even notice any change should your employer continue to provide you with insurance.  I have now lived to see three of the most significant and complex legislature in American history.  Medicare, Civil Rights and now Healthcare.

March Madness

It comes down to the last minute of any college basketball game to determine the winner and that’s why they call it MARCH MADNESS.  There is so much parity in college basketball that at any given game, anyone can win.  I like Kansas vs Duke in the final.

Real Estate Acct. Rules

The credit crisis has put immense pressure on commercial real estate due to liquidity or lack thereof.  Financial Accounting Standards (FAS) rules like FAS 166 & 167 will hamper recovery of securitized markets.  These rules eliminate Qualifying Special Purpose Entity (QSPE) treating transfers of finacial assets as financing for accounting purposes rather than as a sale.  Therefore, requiring banks to place billions in assets back onto their balance sheets leaving less liquidity for loans.

Let’s get with the Lakeland Association of Realtors and head to Washingtion to lobby our Representitives asking them to fully examine accounting policy makeers to fully examine FAS 166 and 167.
